Tunbridge Wells is where we're based, so it's the town we know best and the one we get to most quickly. The housing here is unusually mixed for its size: Georgian and Victorian stock built out during the town's years as a spa resort, then Edwardian and interwar suburbs, then everything since.

That range matters more than it sounds. A Victorian villa off the Common and a new build on the edge of town need completely different preparation, different products, and different amounts of time. Quoting them the same way is how jobs go wrong.

Conservation areas and listed buildings

Large parts of the town, including the Pantiles and the areas around the Commons, sit in conservation areas, and Tunbridge Wells has one of the higher counts of listed buildings in Kent. External work on those properties can need consent, and colour choices are sometimes constrained. Worth checking with the borough council before committing to an exterior scheme rather than after.

Older walls need to breathe

Period properties here are often solid-wall construction finished in lime. Sealing those up with a modern impermeable coating traps moisture in the wall, which is what causes blown plaster and peeling further down the line. On those walls we use breathable, vapour-permeable finishes instead.

A lot of the Victorian and Georgian stock still has its original sashes. They are almost always worth repairing and repainting rather than replacing, both for the look and because replacement is often restricted in a conservation area. Careful preparation is most of the job.
